Dear Parents,
As you are aware, we are in the middle of the cold and flu season. Many children are sick with the flu, strep throat and upper respiratory infections. In an effort to curb the spread of the illness among children in school, please consider the following symptoms:
- Runny nose
- Elevated temperature
- Complaints of a sore throat
- Complaints of an upset stomach, vomiting or diarrhea.
These complaints may occur the night prior to school as well as in the morning.
A child should be without fever, without vomiting and without diarrhea for twenty-four hours prior to returning to class. If an antibiotic has been prescribed, your child should be on this medication for a minimum of twenty-four hours.
As a parent, you know your child best. If your child is not behaving normally or complaining of not feeling well, it is in his or her best interest to remain at home and for you to seek advice from your physician. An ill child cannot function properly in the school setting.
Together we can deter the spread of illness in the school and provide a safe, productive and healthy educational environment for your child.
Sincerely,
Susan Keogan, R. N.
